Relocating to Port Hedland was a big change, and for Zahra Moore, it also opened the door to an unexpected career in real estate.

After starting at Hedland Property Shop in a Receptionist role, Zahra is now moving into Sales Administration position and recently completed her Restricted Sales Registration with REIWA Training. Now, she’s focused on learning as much as she can and building a strong foundation for the next stage of her career.

We caught up with Zahra to hear what drew her to real estate, what she enjoys about sales, and where she hopes to go next.

How did you get your start in real estate?

Real estate was honestly never a career path that had crossed my mind. My partner and I relocated to Port Hedland about six months ago for a work opportunity that my partner received and I was on the plane looking for a role for myself when I came across a Receptionist role at Hedland Property Shop. I heard back within 30 minutes, interviewed the following day and started the following week.

A few months in, I was approached about Sales Admin role, which led to me getting my Restricted Sales Registration, that I completed in December last year.

What do you like about the sales side of real estate?

I like the idea of helping families and people reach their goal of finding a new home. It’s such an exciting stage of life, and it’s rewarding to be part of that journey.

As a first home buyer myself, I understand the emotions attached to buying a home and I really appreciate agents who go above and beyond and stay positive throughout the process. Buying a home is scary, especially for the first time, and if I can be that reassuring person for someone, then I’ll feel like I’ve done something worthwhile.

What exposure and support have you had while working towards your Registration?

While there hasn’t been anything too in-depth yet, now that I’ve completed my Registration and applied for my licence, we’ve started focusing on more training so I’m ready to step into the position.

My team has been incredibly supportive so far, and I’ve had a good mix of exposure. I’ve been on a few viewings and have been involved behind the scenes with new listings, including selling agency agreements, strata contracts and the overall setup process.

Why REIWA Training? And how did you find your experience?

REIWA Training is the provider our agency trusts for licensing and training, so it was the obvious choice.

I had a really positive experience. I liked the feedback process, especially the notes included when assessments were returned, which clearly explained how you could improve or build on your answer. Overall, the course was excellent.

What are your long-term plans for real estate?

At the moment, I’m really content with where I’m at, but I’m keen to keep learning and growing in the industry and with the agency.

Down the line, I think completing my Property Management Registration would help me build my knowledge, especially when it comes to selling tenanted properties and having an understanding of the rental side of real estate.

But for now, it’s all about getting settled into my new role and starting that new journey.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in real estate?

I’d say go for it. It’s not something I ever thought I’d do, but it’s been a really positive experience and it’s helped me grow and develop as a person.

You learn so many things you can use in everyday life, and I’ve really enjoyed my time in the industry so far, even though it’s only been a short time.
