Global in Design

8 Payne Road is a classic example of Australian modernism with its dramatic indoor/outdoor aesthetic and a spectacular union of glass, steel and wood making this an architectural statement from all angles.

A love affair with this special and unique part of Denmark started over 30 years ago with the owners who have maintained a natural and harmonious balance over this time.

Renowned architect John Sunderland worked closely with the owners to design a home which captures the natural elements of its surrounds, sunlight and water glimpses. Natural elements of exquisite hand crafted-wood and ample glass offer a constant connection to the evolving native flora and fauna found in this precious pocket of land.

The warm timber hues enhanced by the Northern light filtering throughout both dwellings immediately greet you from the many entrance options on offer.

An abundance of covered paved or deck areas provide choices to relax throughout the day or night all year round as well as providing connection between the main home, studio and bath house.

Main Residence:
The ground floor of the main residence is all about the open plan living/dining and kitchen areas with wonderful, exposed beams, solid wood floors, and an abundance of natural light streaming through from the void area.
The well-appointed kitchen utilises natural and extra thick raw edge pine bench tops beautifully, which always become a talking point.
The lounge and dining areas are the perfect places for unwinding or socialising while enjoying the wood fireplace during the cooler months or making use of the adjoining deck which flows seamlessly of the dining area in the warmer seasons. The bathroom as well as the study nook add to the functionality of this zone.
Upstairs are the two bedrooms accessed via the gallery walkway which is a visual delight within itself. Both bedrooms have built in robes, solid wood flooring and exposed ceiling beams evoking a sense of calmness.

Studio:
The architect has waved the same natural and calming elements over this separate, although attached via a covered walkway, second dwelling.
With similar design principals as the main house, the studio is blessed with a light filled open plan living area and kitchenette which can be utilised to a new owner's own requirements, as well as the large loft zone upstairs, offering a wide variety of choices.
The main bedroom downstairs with built in robes and sliding glass doors to the outside enjoys a sense of privacy and peace.
The bathroom and separate toilet are adjacent and provide access to the separate Japanese bath house; a spectacular and Zen-like room to soak away and enjoy the Karri experience.

The shared laundry is cleverly located behind bifold doors off the main house along the covered walkway enabling easy access from either dwelling.

Pack your fishing rod, picnic basket, and take advantage of the newly erected stairs across the road which provide access down to the Little River Walk Trail and Wilson Inlet.

This outstanding property is located approximately halfway between some of the South Coast's best surf and fishing beaches and Denmark's charming town centre.

Numerous walk trails and a bike track from beach to town offer a prime location with easy access to all things Denmark and the spectacular South Coast has to offer.

Denmark overview

The townsite of Denmark, located on the south coast 51 kilometres west of Albany, was gazetted a townsite in 1909. It is located on the Denmark River from which it derives its name, the river having been named by the explorer Dr J B Wilson RN in December 1829. Wilson named it the "Denmark" in compliment to his friend Dr. Alexander Denmark R.N. a physician to the fleet. The Aboriginal name "Koorrabup", recorded by Alfred Hillman in 1833, also refers to this area.

Although a townsite was not declared here until 1909, a settlement of this name had existed here for some years previous. A Millars Bros. Timber mill was established on the banks of the river in 1894.
