Character Mud Brick Home on 8.9 Acres

If you have been looking for something different, here it is! Set on nearly 9 acres is this two-storey mud brick, character-filled home, with two bedrooms plus a study or guest bedroom. Located within a five-minute drive of Wundowie IGA, 23 minutes to Northam and 35 minutes to Midland.

There is plenty of room for a couple of horses in the well-fenced paddocks, and the pretty block has something for everyone. The meandering winter creek wanders through the property and has plenty of natural vegetation surrounding it. There are plenty of beautiful native birds, frogs and animals to observe, with the small spring-fed dam giving them a welcome summer drink.

The owner has created a rustic round yard area, and you can also ride straight out onto the nearby Kep Track.

The home features natural timbers throughout and lofty ceilings, giving a good feeling of space. As you walk into the home, you can't help but notice the fantastic use of timber, including huge barn doors that lead out onto the large patio area, giving you a huge indoor/outdoor area to entertain in.

Other features of the house include open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas. The kitchen has an island bench, pantry, new dishwasher and plenty of bench space. Behind the kitchen is a versatile room with French doors to the outside, which can be used as a guest bedroom, study, reading room or whatever you like. The laundry and attractive modern bathroom are also downstairs. A cosy slow-combustion heater keeps you warm in winter.

At the top of the majestic staircase, you will find another quirky living area with a large built-in study desk and room for a cosy TV spot or activity area. From this area, you look down into the main living room.

The bedrooms are off this area. The large, light-filled main bedroom has views over the property and a reverse-cycle air conditioner for your year-round comfort. Bedroom two is queen-sized and also has a split-system air conditioner. Solar panels help with the electricity bills, and the home is on scheme water.

Outside, you have the large patio area where you can sit and watch over your horses, stock or wildlife. On one side of the home, you will find veggie beds ready for you to grow your own fresh produce. There is a two-car garage with power and plenty of room for more sheds if need be.

Wundowie overview

The townsite of Wundowie is located in the Darling Range 72 kilometres east northeast of Perth and 31 kilometres west southwest of Northam. It is located adjacent to the original railway track from Perth to Northam, and in 1907 the Railways Department applied for a name for a newly constructed siding at the 53 Mile between Werribee and Karrijine. The name Wundowing was suggested by the Lands Department, and this was shortened to Wundowi by the Surveyor General.

In 1943 the government decided to commence preliminary work for a blast furnace and wood distillation plant at Wundowie, and to develop a townsite for the workers. Following the survey of lots in 1946 the townsite of Wundowie was gazetted in 1947. Wundowie derives its name from Woondowing Spring, an Aboriginal name for a nearby spring first recorded in 1874. The spelling for the siding was changed according to rules for spelling Aboriginal names adopted by the Lands Department. The meaning of the name is not known, but but it has been suggested it may be derived from Ngwundow, meaning "to lie down".
