The 2018 interior design trends are projected to feature old school metallics, organic materials, bold colours and small accent pieces.
If you’re renting and want to stay up-to-date on the latest interior styles, here are four on-trend ideas you can easily add to your home without blowing your budget.
1. Metallics
Copper and rose gold are said to have reached their peak, and it’s been forecast that brass, gold and silver metallic colours will make a comeback.
Think lanterns and candle votives, framed mirrors and lamps to add a subtle touch of metallic to your décor.
2. Organic materials
Similar to the natural textures and tones we have seen rise in popularity this year, simply designed furniture and decorative items in organic materials are set to make an impact in 2018.
Items such as chairs, tables, bedding and haberdashery made from earthy materials like salvaged wood, organic cotton and natural stone will play to this trend.
Adding lots of greenery to your living quarters is also set to be as big a trend in the New Year as it has been in 2017. So deck out your space with affordable leafy plants which are easy to transport should you move to a new rental.
3. Old and new colour palettes
Although you might not be able to paint the walls of your rental, you can incorporate a colour scheme into your home to personalise it a little. Popular colour palettes for 2018 include:
- Black and white – this classic colour combo is set to stay, and adds a touch of style to your space when you utilise clever patterns and textures. Incorporate patterned pillows, geometric print ceramics and bold bedding to instantly update your décor.
- Teal – if you want to add a pop of colour amongst the black and white, teal is a colour set to trend in 2018. A great colour on plates, table runners, pillows and bedding – but be sure to use varying shades of teal to create depth and interest.
- Millennial pink – this shade of pink rose to fame in 2017 and is still going strong into the New Year. Millennial pink can add a light wash of colour through plush bedding or in an artsy print. This shade is also great for complementing other colours such as rich reds and berries.
4. Small but colourful accent pieces
Renters and those on a budget will rejoice in this particular trend as you don’t need to fork out a lot of money to deck out the whole house in on-trend items. Instead, invest in small accent pieces in bold colours, such as those noted above.
A neutral palette teamed with pops of colour will help to keep your home light and spacious, particularly if you’re living in a small unit or apartment. Accent pieces add a touch of modern and can be easily updated on a whim. Choose wisely with items such as:
- A bold rug to update your lounge room.
- A colourful vase or a series of photo frames to add interest to your shelves.
- A piece of artwork to liven up a white washed wall.
