She’s been in real estate for just over two years, but Ellie Hill has already built a strong presence in the Foothills.
Her approach to social media marketing has helped her connect with a wide audience, with her most popular TikTok videos reaching more than half a million views.
We spoke to Ellie about how she got her start, her most memorable sale and her unique approach to social media marketing.
How did you get involved in real estate?
I’ve always had an interest in real estate. I was running my own business so I understood the sales side of things, and studied marketing at university so I had a taste of how to communicate with different audiences.
I was looking for a career change and met my Director at an event. We later had a meeting and the rest was history. Plus, Selling Sunset sold me on the lifestyle, so I thought why not give it a go.
What do you enjoy most about working in real estate?
The people – I love dealing with people from all walks of life.
You’ll have clients from 18 to 30 purchasing their first home, but you also deal with grandparents downsizing and everything in between. You hear everyone’s life stories – the divorces, the deaths and the new and exciting beginnings.
Being a part of a transition out of someone’s home is emotional. As much as people joke about real estate agents, we’re part of something incredibly important for a lot of people.
Do you have a favourite property you’ve sold?
31 Bruce Road, Maida Vale. It was my third sale and sold as is. It looked like an art museum. The owner was an artist and everything came from the UK.
We got the owner the best result possible and the property went to an amazing couple. I’m still in contact with all of them.
Your social media focuses on the day-to-day, not just listings. What inspired that?
When I first started, I wanted to show what it actually means to be a real estate agent. It’s glamorised online and on TV shows. I wanted to show what we do to get to that point.
Being young and a woman, there aren’t many people you can ask what real estate is really like. I know I show mostly the nice side, not the crying or being yelled at, but I wanted to give a different perspective.
My content is different from other agents. My audience isn’t necessarily those who are active in the market. They might be interested in a career in real estate, or they could recommend me to family or friends because they’ve seen me online, and that’s what sets me apart.
What advice would you give someone thinking of a career in real estate?
Just do it. If you’re already scrolling property sites every day, you’ve got the interest.
Real estate can fit around your lifestyle. It’s not a 9-5 job, it’s a lifestyle, and you do work seven days a week, but it’s incredibly rewarding. The skills stay with you and help in other roles later on.
