Cameron was raised in a farming environment in the South West before attending Christ Church Grammar School for the remainder of his schooling. After spending a year in Finland on a Rotary Scholarship he returned to complete a Bachelor of Business degree majoring in Property at Curtin University and then practised as a property valuer. During the latter years of this period, Cameron became a director of the largest valuation firm in Western Australia.
