The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) has introduced an environmental and sustainability policy which will underpin its core business objectives moving forward.

REIWA CEO Neville Pozzi said the Institute was committed to the long-term integration of sustainable and environmentally responsible practices throughout the organisation.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring a green future. This policy will ensure REIWA reduces its carbon footprint, decreases waste, advocates for energy efficient buildings and supports our members with education and training as they move towards a net zero future,” Mr Pozzi said.

Educational focus for WA real estate agents

A key focus of the policy is to raise awareness of sustainable housing options and educate real estate agents about the benefits for their clients.

“Real estate agents are at the forefront of property transactions. The WA public are becoming increasingly energy conscious, so it’s important that real estate agents are well educated in environmental and sustainability housing options so they can help their clients achieve their green goals," Mr Pozzi said.

“REIWA is the first national real estate institute to introduce an environmental and sustainability policy and our goal is to share our learnings and success stories with other institutes around Australia as we lead in this space.”

“We are committed to working with our members, employers, subcontractors and the WA public to achieve continual environmental improvement in our business operations, training and advocacy,” Mr Pozzi said.

Green Gurus collaboration

To assist with the development of the policy, goals and action plan, REIWA has engaged Green Gurus.

“Green Gurus are experts in sustainability, education and consultancy. We are delighted to be able to partner with them to harness their expertise as REIWA shifts to a green future,” Mr Pozzi said.

Green Gurus Founder Chiara Pacifici said REIWA and Green Guru’s decade long partnership is the first of its kind in Australia, with thousands of WA real estate practitioners better informed and skilled to identify sustainability attributes and their benefits in new and existing homes.

“We are proud to assist REIWA in achieving their policy commitments, advocacy and real estate training as they continue to support industry and members towards a decarbonised future,” Ms Pacifici said.
