Don Fry inducted into REIWA Rural Hall of Fame and Jeff Douglas named Rural Agent of the Year

Don Fry, Director of LAWD, has been inducted into the REIWA Rural Hall of Fame and Jeff Douglas, Rural Real Estate Branch Manager at Elders Real Estate Narrogin, was named REIWA 2026 Rural Agent of the Year.

The awards were presented at REIWA’s Rural Seminar and Awards on 31 July. They honour individuals who have made a significant contribution to rural real estate. 

REIWA President Suzanne Brown said induction into the Hall of Fame recognised an agent who demonstrated outstanding service, leadership and a lasting contribution to rural real estate in WA.

“Don Fry is highly deserving of this accolade,” she said.

“Not only has he had a long and very successful real estate career, he has also played a significant role in elevating the professionalism of the rural real estate industry.

“Don is widely respected for his professionalism and integrity. His reputation among both his peers and clients is a testament to his unwavering commitment to ethical practices and excellence in the real estate industry.”

Ms Brown said Mr Fry had helped improve the standards and education within the rural real estate industry through his service on REIWA’s Rural Network Committee.

“Don was a long-term member of the committee, ultimately serving as chairman,” she said.

“During that time, he played an important role in shaping the committee’s direction and supporting the development of REIWA’s rural education program, including gaining Continuing Professional Development recognition for rural education.

“Throughout his career, he has remained committed to learning, leadership and sharing his knowledge with others. Many rural professionals have benefited from his mentoring, guidance, and willingness to offer well-considered advice.”

Ms Brown said Mr Fry’s service to the rural industry extended beyond his work as an agent.

“Don has served on several agricultural and rural industry committees, helping to strengthen the connection between rural real estate and the broader agricultural sector,” she said.

“He has helped strengthen rural real estate in WA, not only through his own achievements, but through the people and professions he has supported over the years.” 

Rural Agent of the Year

The Rural Agent of the Year award recognises excellence in rural practice, including leadership, contribution to the industry, and client service.

Ms Brown said Mr Douglas showed incredible commitment to his clients, building strong, long-term relationships with them.

“Jeff prioritises face-to-face contact and personal communication to ensure clients feel supported and confident throughout the sales process,” she said.

“He focuses heavily on understanding both his clients and their properties and will travel hundreds of kilometres to meet his clients in person. He makes himself available when needed and responds quickly to issues or concerns.

“Jeff also understands that when selling rural and agricultural properties, small details matter, such as contamination risks, arable land areas, zoning considerations, and surrounding environmental factors. Inaccuracies can severely affect a sale.

“He is known to spend hours walking properties from corner to corner, gaining knowledge of every section of the land. His hands-on approach has proven to be extremely beneficial, allowing him to identify potential risks early, gather accurate information, and provide clear and reliable property descriptions.

“In his pursuit of successful outcomes for his clients, Jeff has also worked closely with mapping contractors to provide accurate and visually appealing information in his advertising campaigns.

“This has helped potential buyers better understand the layout, features, arable areas, and value of a property before inspection. This has improved buyer engagement and increased the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.”

Ms Brown said Mr Douglas was also a strong mentor for his team, guiding and supporting those with less experience.

“I know his team values his leadership and feels empowered by his mentorship,” she said.
