Kalbarri… honestly, where do I even start! This is one of those places that just grabs you - and once you're here, you get it.

Nature that stops you in your tracks
We're talking seriously jaw-dropping scenery. Where the Murchison River meets the Indian Ocean, framed by the incredible cliffs of Kalbarri National Park. Think iconic spots like Nature's Window and Z-Bend Gorge, plus wildflower season that absolutely lights the place up. It's next level.

Adventure on your doorstep
Whether you're into cruising the river, throwing a line in, kayaking, chasing wild flowers or tackling a coastal hike - Kalbarri delivers. You can go as relaxed or as adventurous as you like, and that's what people love about it.

Wildlife everywhere you look
Kangaroos, emus, echidnas, birdlife… it's all part of daily life here. And along the coastline, you've got front-row seats to whale watching during migration season - it's pretty special.

Beautiful weather, all year round
Warm, sunny days, mild winters - it's the kind of climate that just makes life easy and enjoyable.

A community you'll fall in love with
Kalbarri has that welcoming, laid-back feel that people are chasing. Local markets, great little cafés, small businesses - it's a real community, not just a place on the map.

Culture and history woven in
Kalbarri's story is shaped by its people - from the deep and enduring connection of Aboriginal culture to the land and sea, through to the hardworking cray fishermen, wet liners, and local farmers who have built and sustained this community over generations. It's a place where tradition, resilience, and a true coastal lifestyle all come together, giving Kalbarri its genuine, down-to-earth character.

And the future? It's exciting!
With the Shire of Northampton driving the Kalbarri Foreshore Revitalisation, we're seeing real investment into the town - upgraded waterfront spaces, better amenities, and more for locals and visitors to enjoy. It's only adding to what's already so special.

Easy to get to, hard to leave
A scenic drive from Perth, plenty of accommodation options, and everything you need to feel right at home.

The wrap up
Kalbarri isn't just a destination - it's a lifestyle. Stunning landscapes, endless things to do, an amazing community, and a future that's only getting brighter.

Far away is closer than you think.

Kalbarri overview

Kalbarri is a coastal resort and fishing town, 589 km north north west of Perth. It is located at the mouth of the Murchison River, the area becoming popular in the late 1940s as a tourist and fishing resort. In 1948 the government decided to declare a townsite here, and following the survey of lots the townsite was gazetted in 1951.

The name of Kalbarri was chosen from a list of Aboriginal words compiled by Daisy Bates in 1913. It is a man's name from a Murchison tribe, and also the name of an edible seed. The Aboriginal name for the area of Kalbarri has been recorded as "Wurdimarlu".
