With fewer than 700 residents at the time of the 2011 Census, Orange Grove has retained its predominantly rural flavour. The suburbs population growth began in the 1970s and has fluctuated only slightly since with the area supporting a number of land-based industries in the past, such as orchards, market garden, poultry farms and brickworks. One vineyard continues to operate in the suburb and quarrying has been carried out since the 1920s. Located within the City of Gosnells in the foothills behind Tonkin Highway, the suburb derived its named from how it once was, full of orange orchards.
Largely avoiding suburbanisation, Orange Grove has a charm and remoteness few suburbs within the Perth metropolitan area can boast. Features of Orange Grove include the Korung National Park, Banyowla Regional Park, Kelvin Road Parklands, Bickley Brook Reservoir and the Jadran Winery. The Orange Grove Oval, Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp and the Orange Grove Shooting Complex provide recreational opportunities, while Orange Grove Primary School is the local school.
