In the pocket (and the clique)

Close to the river meets socially fluent.

You know that smug, ‘if you know, you know’ vibe folks have around here? We don’t blame you for wanting in on that. Plus, this home just works. It’s clean as a whistle, freshly repainted, and puts you right where good things are happening. Elevated in the complex, it opens into a light-filled living space with timber-look floors and that effortless, open layout that just makes you feel fab the moment you walk in. The feature archway gives a subtle nod to character while keeping everything flowing, and those oversized windows? They pull in just enough green to remind you you’ve nailed the balance. Step out onto the balcony and it’s your little front-row seat to the neighbourhood - bring your morning coffee, book, and tune into the bird-song. Inside, split-system air con and ceiling fans keep everything exactly how you like it, all year round. The kitchen delivers a punchy red-tiled splashback plus a breakfast bar made for quick bites and good wine. Down the hall, the bedroom is generous, light-filled, and properly functional with built-in robes, while the tidy bathroom reflects its origins with blue feature tiles and hexagonal flooring, plus a full shower, roman bath, and cleverly integrated laundry. Honestly, you’ve cracked the code for the good life here.

Location-wise, you’ll get why people try so hard to live here: river-close but still ridiculously connected. Start your day with a walk through Bardon Park (500m), a lap past the Maylands Yacht Club and jetty (450m), or a reset along the foreshore (2.9km). When caffeine calls, you’ve got Steam Haus (1km), Sherbet Cafe & Bake Shop (1km), Mrs S (950m), Noggos (1.9km), Garden Café on Guildford (1.7km), and Peninsula Farm Cafe (2.4km) spoiling you for choice. You’re in the mix for social butterflyism too, with Seasonal Brewing Co (650m) and Lyric’s Bar (750m) waiting to be your locals, while Pizzeria Amore Mio (1.4km) keeps dinner plans sorted without the group chat debate. Daily life runs just as smoothly with The RISE (950m), Coles (950m), and IGA (1km) all within easy reach. Getting around is borderline unfairly simple with your own bus stop right outside the group (routes 42 and 43), plus Maylands Train Station (900m) and Mount Lawley Train Station (1.4km) ready when you need them.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
