If you love a bit of history but cannot make do without your creature comforts, then this superbly presented, warm and inviting family home on approximately almost 8 glorious acres of old growth jarrah is just something you must see. This home has never been sold since it was rebuilt and is without doubt the most wonderful block on which to raise your kids; there is no better. I will say this, if you want a true hills home, then this absolutely must be on your list to view. Floor area is approximate but this is a very large property!
This block has two street frontages, both a significant distance from the home, but if zoning plans ever change, you would be well set here - for now though it is 3.18 hectares (approx.) and is partially fenced. About an acre is this gorgeous clear paddock and fruit trees, lawn, rose gardens and workshop. The rest is as nature left it. It is a red tail black cockatoo habitat, and we will provide the new owners with a full flora and fauna report that has been done, earmarking some 80 significant trees on the land.
Now this home was just a small hut comprising one main room and a lean to and was built possibly for timber workers back in the days of Lions Mill in the early 1900's. Construction was of jarrah and corrugated iron with no electricity, running water or window glass. It was later extended to 2 main rooms still in timber and iron but with a concrete floor. Purchased (we believe) by an English family in the 40s, the family built this home of half-height stone walls with weather boards, appearing to use whatever materials they could scrounge. They also had what is believed the first internal toilet and a piggery. You can still see where the Mill railway came through this property and there are probably still some treasures to be found!
In 1984, the original home which had grown somewhat was mostly demolished, leaving some of the original 100-year-old heritage and then this home was built onto it. And now today, you have a large family home with huge living areas, touches of history throughout, dormer bedrooms, studies, work from home rooms, 2 bathrooms, a family laundry and a wonderful country kitchen with wood stove.
The living rooms here can host the largest of gatherings at XMAS and the master retreat with its separate living area and massive ensuite is just glorious - wooden floorboards, picture window seating and high ceilings ensure this area exudes so much warmth and character. The kitchen has all the modern appliances, dishwasher, huge pantry that will accommodate a fridge, and that wood stove! The breakfast bar looks out over a very large dining / family room which is usually awash with natural light.
There are some little quirks - such as you have to duck a little bit when heading up to the kids zone for example (which makes it even more special in my eyes) but when you arrive, oh it's worth the trip! The views that the kids have up here are like something out of a movie - open the window and there is the lawn, the cleared area, the kangaroos, and then the trees. And it is off one of these bedrooms that you will find "Narnia" - the secret hole in the wall. I'll show you when you get here but it has potential for even more space and the kids will LOVE this!
There are some bonus rooms too - a work from home office off the double garage, a parent study off the master which could serve as a massive dressing room as well, and then a smaller room off that - the library or sewing room or perhaps a master mud room! So, there is scope to really put your own stamp on it too. Of course, there is air con, a gorgeous wood heater and roller shutters - all the creature comforts have been added.
But you move here for space, so it is the outside where you will likely spend most of your time and this is just picture perfect. The photos say it all, but the lawn area, the orchard and the parkland cleared sections around the house make for a true English Garden type feel and there is a large, powered workshop as well which is suitable for mechanics or as a place to store your tractor! With places to sit, places to entertain and places just to relax, this is a fine, fine residence.
To see it, just call me, we will show you around at your convenience - it just feels like the type of place where you don't need 40 people around you, so we will do it the old fashioned way and make an appointment and let you fully experience it! The owners are looking forward to you enjoying this much loved and beautiful home and I am very much looking forward to showing it to you.
