Designed for life

This beautiful architectural home is a superb example of the thoughtful design, quality finishes, and sustainable features you’ve come to expect in the award-winning Witchcliffe Ecovillage.

Featured in Sanctuary Magazine’s February 2026 edition, this was the first “Retreat” design from John Damant’s Econests by Arcologic range of homes that was built in 2023 by renowned local builder Tallwood.

Set on a 465sqm strata-titled Cottage Lot, the three-bedroom two-bathroom home enjoys a prime outlook through the centre of the Cluster 2A community garden and has an additional 130sqm of productive EUA garden, creating a sense of space, connection, and tranquility.

Econests were specifically designed for the Witchcliffe Ecovillage lot sizes, orientation and sustainability requirements ensuring warmth and light in winter and shading in summer. Inside, the 129sqm floor plan is both practical and inviting with two main volumes connected by a light-filled hallway and office / third bedroom, which creates space for a private alfresco patio off the main bedroom. The two-bedroom wing also has a private ensuite and spacious bathroom with integrated laundry. A well-equipped kitchen with stone benchtops flows into the open plan living and dining area that faces north onto a vine-covered alfresco entertaining area overlooking the lush lawn, productive EUA vegetable patch and community garden beyond.

Sustainability is at the core of this home. Features include:
• Solar-powered electric underfloor heating throughout
• Quality honeycomb blinds throughout
• Big Ass ceiling fans in all rooms
• 9.1-star NatHERS thermal efficiency rating
• 8.2kW solar system (often in credit)
• 60,000L rainwater tank
• Greywater system and drip irrigation
• Two dedicated parking spaces
• Ample storage in two garden sheds

Witchcliffe overview

The townsite of Witchcliffe is located in the south west agricultural region, 286 kilometres south southwest of Perth and nine kilometres south of Margaret River. In 1924 the government extended the railway to Witchcliffe, and at first selected the name Newralingup for the siding, but the name Narawary was approved. However, a Post Office named Witchcliffe had already been opened when the railway siding was named, and Narawary siding was renamed Witchcliffe in February 1925. Also in 1924 interest was shown in blocks of land at Witchcliffe Siding, and after investigation a scheme of subdivision was planned, lots surveyed, and a townsite gazetted in 1926.

The name Witchcliffe was first used in this district for Witchliffe Cave, the name being recorded by a surveyor in 1900. The name was probably given by the Bussell family who settled near here in the 1850's, naming their property "Wallcliffe House". Both the homestead and the cave are in an area of coastal cliffs, hence the "cliffe" part of the name.
