Masterclass in redesign

Absolutely, undeniably, totally gorgeous.

Carefully reimagined, stripped back and rebuilt over time, the approach to this journey was never a fleeting fling or quick flip – it’s been a faithful family home, cherished and refined over each stage of life. Every inch has been shaped with purpose and a deep respect for its character, guided by its owner, the Director of &Dalecki, a studio known for creating spaces that feel as good as they look.

The result? A home that feels effortless, embraces modern living, and still carries the soul of the original in every corner. At its heart, the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living zone is a showpiece – soaring full-height ceilings, sleek built-in shelving, and kitchen cupboards that rise to the bulkhead, turning the everyday into the extraordinary. Goosebumps.

Love a bit of romance? Be wooed by the primary with its tuckpointed ethanol fireplace, before being completely seduced by the ensuite’s bespoke long concrete vanity and walk-in shower. The second bathroom doesn’t miss a beat either - the built-in bath was made for deep soaks and indulgence. Designer touches are everywhere: a cleverly concealed laundry, a powder room with playful wallpaper (a cheeky nod to mid-century charm), and spaces that surprise and delight at every turn - plus that critical item that’s usually lacking in character homes: storage!

Step outside and you’ll find the same considered approach – a modwood back deck that spills into a paved firepit zone, a slide to lend a sense of fun and whimsy, and everything framed by mature gardens and corten steel planters. Add in the cedar-lined carport, character-rich verandah, sleek wire balustrading, secure entry, bonus storage under the house, and a side shed, and you’ve got a home where every detail has been expertly thought through and beautifully executed.

Location-wise, you couldn’t be in a better pocket of Maylands – west of the railway line in coveted ‘Minglewood’, brushing the Inglewood border. Beaufort Street (500m) is a short stroll down the road with its endless eats and treats. Baking Corner (550m) will keep you in sourdough, pies, and flat whites. Coles (700m) and ALDI (900m) are close enough to make stocking that gorgeous kitchen a breeze, and if brunch is your love language, Finlay & Sons (850m) will sort you out. The Monday Night Markets (1km) will be back soon, Maylands’ buzzing social precinct kicks off at the station (1.1km), and with Meltham Station just 800m away, the CBD (5.2km) is an easy ride. Families – you’re in the zone for Inglewood Primary too.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
