Mum & Dad loved it here! 'Mona and Doug decided to move to St Ives because they no longer wanted the burden of a large house and maintaining an immaculate garden. They had lived for many years in the Wembley Downs and Churchlands areas so wanted a home in very familiar territory.
They knew where to shop and could keep the same doctor and dentist as they were local. Mona initially really didn't want to move but was persuaded by Doug and said many times in the years after the move, that she was so happy that she they had moved and it turned out to be the best decision. They were young enough to make many friends of a similar age at St Ives. Mona said laughingly there were many other residents whose first names were very common from her childhood. They enjoyed BBQ (Sausage Sizzle) evenings with their new friends and the whole of Churchill would get together at the restaurant once a month. They really participated in the social life and enjoyed the caring friendly community.
My parents really liked their 3 bedroom apartment. They turned one into a study for Dad, that was the one by the front door, a great place for Dad to control his investments, play on the computer and occasionally watch his own TV. The second bedroom remained a spare bedroom so they could child mind when the kids were little.
They loved their North facing apartment. It was warm in winter and cool in summer. The balcony overlooked the rest of St Ives and also, they didn't feel hemmed in as they had views over the neighbourhood too. The balcony is a large size, so they had their own BBQ and outdoor table to have guests to a BBQ in the nice weather. Dad would sit and read his newspaper in the morning on his balcony. They even put fake plants in pots, so it looked garden like without having to do the hard work.'
