This delightful white weatherboard and iron cottage is not only storybook charming; it is also quite large with some fantastic, unexpected features. One of the three bedrooms under the main roof includes a kitchenette, lounge and study nook that forms an excellent guest suite or internal granny flat. In addition to the kitchen sink and cabinetry, there is a neat and tidy compact ensuite. The sunny master bedroom faces north and has doors that open up onto the front, elevated verandah. It features high ceilings, a large built-in robe and a semi-ensuite. Walk through the cosy reading/library room to access the third bedroom.

The front door opens into the formal lounge, which is decorated in old world style with leadlight windows, picture rails, velvet curtains and ornate pendant lights. Bi-fold doors from the dining room create a seamless transition to the fully enclosed, tiled sunroom, which has a bank of windows looking out to the rear garden and alfresco entertaining patio. It’s a large, comfortable space with a slow combustion fire sitting in the corner. The cute country kitchen features warm cork flooring, abundant storage and electric appliances.

Attached to the oversized remote entry garage with mezzanine storage is the versatile, self-contained studio, which has a bedroom space, a large walk-in robe/storage and ensuite with powder room. Use it for guests, a teenage retreat or make it your art/project studio - the opportunities are endless.

In the rear garden, there is an alfresco entertaining patio, a powered shed with lean-to and a good-sized lawn with a cute blue and lime green kid’s cubby house. While this garden is lovely, there is great potential for an abundant vegetable patch and the garden is dotted with mature deciduous and fruit trees that will really make your green thumb twitch. In Spring, a living curtain of glorious wisteria festoons the elevated front verandah and is the crowning glory of the pretty ornamental front garden. Semi reticulated and with the versatility of three small water tanks the gardens have neat gravel and brick paved pathways, compost bays, small storage sheds for tools and wood, and work/potting areas.

Set well back and hidden, the driveway takes you to Mayflower Cottage where there is plenty of parking for visitors. Just 15 minutes to Midland and close to shops, schools and all the amenities that Mundaring and Glen Forrest have on offer this is a super convenient location. But photos and words can’t do justice to this pretty property: its charm has to be experienced firsthand.

Mahogany Creek overview

This suburb takes its name from Mahogany Creek, a picturesque tributary of Jane Brook which flows through the area. The creek was known by this name as early as 1830, and takes its name from the towering forest through which it flowed (mahogany was the early colonial name for Jarrah). This place is well known from "The Old Mahogany Inn" located here, an early colonial wayside inn, formerly known as the "Prince of Wales" Inn. The area was developed as orchard land in the 1890's, and a railway stopping place was established here in 1891.
