Nestled between forest and farmland in the quaint eastern suburb of Wundowie, lies 35 Lobelia Avenue, a comfortable 3 bed, 1 bath bungalow set on a quarter acre of grassed and planted land. The spacious rooms are brightened by wide windows and clean finished walls and warmed by burnished authentic jarrah floors.

Set back from the street, the home is screened from passersby with shrubbery, allowing a sense of seclusion and privacy. Opening into a wide front yard, we step up to the elevated bungalow into a wooden porch, shaded from the elements and decorated with greenery twining up a lattice. Decked out with some simple furniture, this would be an idyllic location to settle down with a cup of tea and watch the world go by.

Venturing inside via the deep verandah, we come directly into the main living area. Original casement windows open to the east in this lounge room, assuring a lovely sunrise burst of natural light. Further adding to the rooms creature comfort’s is a slow combustion fireplace curtained by a rustic brick and jarrah mantle piece and air conditioning for the warmer months.

The kitchen has ample bench space, plenty of storage options, a free standing oven and room for a small dining table, where one can oversee food preparations or peacefully gaze into the yard and across the scenic hills vista that the elevation of the home allows.

Set at the front of the home, the master bedroom is well proportioned and furnished with wide casement windows and a ceiling fan for warmer summer nights. Two junior bedrooms, one with a ceiling fan, adjoin the rear of the home.

A large tiled bathroom bedecked with a bathtub/shower combination and reasonably sized vanity serves the household, alongside a separate toilet and laundry room.

In the backyard there is a steel lean-to shed for storage, a hills hoist washing line and a concrete pad, perfect for the parking of a caravan or trailer. In the springtime, the ground will be littered with a gorgeous field of purple from the towering mature jacaranda tree that also provides shade year round.

Located in a quiet estate with a strong community feel, this property is located within walking distance to all essential services in the Wundowie township and an easy drive to the larger townships of Mundaring and Midland.

Wundowie overview

The townsite of Wundowie is located in the Darling Range 72 kilometres east northeast of Perth and 31 kilometres west southwest of Northam. It is located adjacent to the original railway track from Perth to Northam, and in 1907 the Railways Department applied for a name for a newly constructed siding at the 53 Mile between Werribee and Karrijine. The name Wundowing was suggested by the Lands Department, and this was shortened to Wundowi by the Surveyor General.

In 1943 the government decided to commence preliminary work for a blast furnace and wood distillation plant at Wundowie, and to develop a townsite for the workers. Following the survey of lots in 1946 the townsite of Wundowie was gazetted in 1947. Wundowie derives its name from Woondowing Spring, an Aboriginal name for a nearby spring first recorded in 1874. The spelling for the siding was changed according to rules for spelling Aboriginal names adopted by the Lands Department. The meaning of the name is not known, but but it has been suggested it may be derived from Ngwundow, meaning "to lie down".
