Cafe hops, bar drops, park stops

1920s beauty with big block energy.

Personality in spades. 1920s character. And a whole 675sqm R40 block in one of Perth’s most happening suburbs. If that gets your attention, just skip on through the white picket gate, down the recycled brick paved steps, over the sweep of lawn, and up to the wide, welcoming classic porch and you’ll know… this is a house that will win your heart before you’ve even crossed the threshold.

And, inside? Oh honey! The high ceilings with ornate details and cornices will knock your socks off with their doses of charm, plus the Jarrah floorboards that practically beg for bare feet dancing at midnight. The formal lounge is cosy but also a little fancy, with an original brick fireplace plus open shelves to display all your collected treasures. This is where you’ll want to curl up with a book, a glass of wine, or both. The bedrooms give you options: a main with walk-in robe and a little bonus room for additional storage and a large second bedroom for wardrobe overflow (!), guests, kid/s or an oversized office. Winning.

The kitchen and meals area is drenched in light and ready for all the delicious things with storage, double sinks, and overhead cupboards. The cute blue & white family bathroom is charming and practical, and the sleepout-turned-laundry with a massive bank of cupboards is a clever solution that saves you hauling your washing downstairs to the original outdoor one - now a handy storage spot. Then, there’s the backyard. A huge canvas waiting for all your vision. It already boasts a cricket-worthy patch of lawn, mature trees, shed, paving, and a deck that’s your new favourite spot for morning coffee.

Location-wise, this spot is as full of life and charisma as you. It’s not just the cafes and restaurants that are buzzing with energy, and it’s not just the shops and bakeries that make wandering around a joy. It’s all of that and the friendly wave from a neighbour while out for a stroll at Gibbney Reserve (230m) or Gordon Reserve (400m), or the simple pleasure of grabbing a coffee at Garden Cafe on Guildford (280m), or Kinky Lizard Café (350m). It’s about stocking up on essentials at Maylands IGA (750m) or picking up a few treats at Little Picture Café (850m) before heading to the Eighth Avenue Social Strip (900m) for a cheeky night out. It’s about sipping craft brews at Seasonal Brewing Co (1km), cocktails at Volare Bar (1.1km) or Lyrics Bar (1.1km), or catching up with friends over dinner at Pizzeria Amore Mio (350m) or the cosy Mrs Lim Kitchen (1.1km). It’s the little moments that make this the quintessential Maylands lifestyle: relaxed yet vibrant, charming yet full of surprises, and exactly where you want to be.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
