A characterful home on a generous 1012 sqm block at the top of a well-connected country town - this is the kind of opportunity that makes a lot of sense, whether you're stepping onto the property ladder for the first time or building a portfolio.

1,012 sqm top-of-town lot

Step up onto the front porch for a first taste of the cottage-cute potential this property offers. Inside, the north-facing lounge room is bright and calm - original timber-framed windows draw in light, and the high ceilings give the whole space an airiness.

The kitchen and meals area sit behind the lounge in a practical lateral arrangement. There's bench space to cook, a freestanding oven, and room for a small table beside the window - the kind of spot where a morning coffee and a view of the backyard become part of the daily rhythm. It's functional as it stands, and there's clear scope to update it to your own taste over time.

The main bedroom faces north and makes good use of it - carpet underfoot, a large window, ceiling fan, and reverse-cycle air-conditioning mean it's comfortable across every season. The second bedroom holds its own with high ceilings and easy-care timber-look floors, and there's a reasonable chance original jarrah boards are waiting beneath - worth investigating if you're planning a renovation.

At the back of the home, the layout flows from a walk-through laundry to a family bathroom - with an over-tub shower and vanity - and a separate WC. The laundry door opens onto a small landing with steps down into the backyard. The yard is largely level, fully fenced, and gated - plenty of room for kids or dogs to play, and a blank canvas if you have ambitions for a vegetable patch, lawn or outdoor entertaining setup. A small garden shed takes care of tools and materials in the meantime.

The 1,012 sqm block sits at the top of Wundowie's distinctive, well-planned street layout - a country town with more going for it than its size might suggest. The post office, supermarket, library, medical centre, primary school, swimming pool, and police and fire stations are all within easy walking distance. Wundowie's position close to the Great Eastern Highway puts Mundaring and Midland within straightforward commuting distance, with the airport not far beyond - a practical consideration for buyers who work FIFO or in the metro area but want space, affordability, and a quieter pace of life.

For first-time buyers, the property offers a foothold in the market with real potential to add value progressively - improve the kitchen, refinish the floors, develop the garden - at your own pace and on your own terms.

There's a single carport with room to manoeuvre. The porch out front is small but genuinely inviting - the sort of detail that makes a house feel like a home before you've even crossed the threshold.

If this is the kind of opportunity you've been watching for, now is the time to take a closer look.

Wundowie overview

The townsite of Wundowie is located in the Darling Range 72 kilometres east northeast of Perth and 31 kilometres west southwest of Northam. It is located adjacent to the original railway track from Perth to Northam, and in 1907 the Railways Department applied for a name for a newly constructed siding at the 53 Mile between Werribee and Karrijine. The name Wundowing was suggested by the Lands Department, and this was shortened to Wundowi by the Surveyor General.

In 1943 the government decided to commence preliminary work for a blast furnace and wood distillation plant at Wundowie, and to develop a townsite for the workers. Following the survey of lots in 1946 the townsite of Wundowie was gazetted in 1947. Wundowie derives its name from Woondowing Spring, an Aboriginal name for a nearby spring first recorded in 1874. The spelling for the siding was changed according to rules for spelling Aboriginal names adopted by the Lands Department. The meaning of the name is not known, but but it has been suggested it may be derived from Ngwundow, meaning "to lie down".
