27 Garrity St, Tambellup - A step back in time

This nineteen fifties brick and tile house is centrally located in Tambellup on a large 2,744 square metre corner block.

The house has recently been used as a Bed & Breakfast with a fifties theme running through the entire building including flying ducks on the wall and matching cookie, tea & coffee containers.

There are three bedrooms, one bathroom, laundry with a separate shower, kitchen, lounge/dining room, fully enclosed verandah and a linen cupboard. The hot water is supplied by a boosted Solar system and heating comes from an open wood fire in the lounge room. Mains water, power and deep sewerage are all connected.

The garage is big enough for two school buses and is also of brick & tile construction with a concrete floor and two storage rooms. There is a 40,000 litre cement rainwater tank connected to the garage and a smaller 2,300 litre tank which collects water off the house.

The owners are keen to sell and prepared to negotiate.

Tambellup overview

The townsite of Tambellup is located in the Great Southern Agricultural region, 317 kilometres south east of Perth and 23 kilometres south of Broomehill. The area around Tambellup was first settled by pastoralists in the late 1840s, and in 1849 the Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe, when passing through the area, referred to Morrison's south west station at "Tambul-yillup". The area was later settled by the Norrish family, and the spelling commonly used for the place then was "Tambellelup". When the Great Southern Railway was opened in 1889 a station was established at Tambellup, and it appears that the shortened version of the name was created by the railway, as the timetable in 1889 uses the Tambellup spelling. Tambellup was gazetted a townsite in 1899. The meaning of this Aboriginal name is not known, although one source gives it as "place of thunder"(from Toombellanup).
