Something old, something new

After a century, this renovated home still has plenty of life to offer.

This divine slice of history could be yours. If walls could talk these would have a lot to say about the people, décor, and events that have been part of its story over the last 100 years. Now your family gets to create their own moments and memories in this lovely character home that you’ll no doubt want to hold onto for decades to come. Renovated to incorporate plenty of modern conveniences such as ducted reverse cycle air conditioning, Miele kitchen appliances, and a walk through robe in the main bedroom, it nonetheless retains every bit of its old world charm. The stately verandah with its tuckpointed façade and pretty white trim and balustrading welcomes you before you even step through the (beautiful leadlight) front door. Timber floorboards throughout the home are a timeless feature, and the ceiling roses and ornate light fittings add elegance. Plate and picture rails in the bedrooms mean you can decorate with ease and change things up whenever the mood strikes, whether that be seasonally or… never! And then there’s the bathroom. It’s been beautifully renovated too, but there remains a cast iron clawfoot tub for the ultimate indulgence. A good long soak with a classic book and a glass of wine is enough to soothe even the most stressed of souls. Rounded out with a gas log fireplace in the lounge that evokes cosy, comforting feelings, this home is a brilliant blend of old and new and everything in between.

Location-wise, you’ll never tire of the convenience of being only 260m from Coles and 350m from Maylands Park Shopping Centre. Not to mention the handful of cafes, local icon Pizzeria Amore Mio (150m), and The Seasonal Brewing Co. (600m). You’ll also find bus stops within easy walking distance and Maylands train station only 800m from your door, so you can zip into the city, up to Guildford or Midland, or even out to the airport. With all that time saved now you’ve got the world’s easiest commute, you can pick up a new hobby or just add some impromptu fun moments into your life. The Rise (450m) is home to all sorts of recreation programs and community events, the local library (450m) will never fail to transport you to magical new worlds of your choosing, the riverside with its yacht club, golf course, and pretty parklands is only minutes away by bike or on foot (if you fancy a run), and if you head over to Eighth Avenue you’ll be immersed in the local entertainment precinct. Which option will you pick first? Only time will tell.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
