Hidden away by the Hotham River

Hidden away just 179km from Perth CBD this property offers the opportunity to enjoy your own 6.18 acres (approx.) on the banks of the Hotham River.
A large four bay shed, high clearance two bay carport and one double garage provide the essential supporting infrastructure for the property. The acreage is divided into five paddocks with the house and sheds set within a large house yard. The cottage home itself has one queensize bedroom with floor to ceiling built in wardrobes and three single sized bedrooms. The kitchen and meals area lead out to an alcove with security mesh doors. This makes a great 'wet room' or a delightful space to sit on a winter morning. A feature of this delightful cottage home is the extra-large front verandah, ideal for summer evenings. Not far from the house, close to the water tank, is an old stone toilet building; a special piece of history.
Imagine going for your morning walk along the river, through surrounding bushland or into Popanyinning town just 1.5km away.

Popanyinning overview

The townsite of Popanyinning is located in the great southern agricultural region, 174 kilometres southeast of Perth and 17 kilometres south southeast of Pingelly. The townsite is located on the Great Southern Railway, a private railway built by the Western Australian Land Company and opened in 1889. Popanyinning was one of the original sidings on the rail line when it opened. In 1896 the Western Australian government purchased the rail line and land, and in 1903 decided to have a few lots surveyed at the Popanyinning siding to meet the requirements of the local settlers. After survey the townsite of Popanyinning was gazetted in 1904.

Popanyinning is an Aboriginal name, first recorded by the surveyor John Forrest in 1869, for a pool in the Hotham River. Some records spell the place Popanying, or Popanyining, but these appear to just be misspellings of the original name. The meaning of Popanyinning is not known.
