MAJESTIC COUNTRYSIDE RETREAT

Stretching across 1.4 acres, in a very special pocket close to town, we find this private parcel of Margaret River peace and tranquillity. Hidden away down an inspiring karri and marri tree-lined driveway, this exceptional, architect-designed and craftsman-built home has sweeping verandahs and rarely-found extended views across a small farm, the Yalgardup Brook Valley, and forest beyond.

Local timbers are a key feature of this grand home and the main section opens to the verandah on two sides via French doors. The living room has a magnificent, vaulted ceiling; the dining area captures the spectacular sunsets; and the kitchen overlooks the stunning parterre garden. Also in this section of the home is a large, timber-lined office/spare bedroom with doors to the verandah and, also opening onto the verandah in the most private position, is the main bedroom that features built-in robes, a walk-in robe and a bathroom.

To the left of the entry foyer, past a storeroom utilised as a wine cellar, we find a separate wing with two very generous bedrooms that have walk-in robes; a bathroom; a laundry with toilet; and a splendid loungeroom with exterior access. This whole section could be locked off from the main area and have its own access for guests.

A covered walkway connects the home to the double auto-door garage. This building features a self-contained apartment with kitchen/dining, bathroom and bedroom downstairs, and an upstairs lounge. This living space could suit teenagers; possibly be rented out; and/or be utilised to house a property manager for absentee-owners.

A detailed information memorandum is available which outlines the extensive list of recent upgrades made by the current owners which have lifted the grand residence and grounds to a whole new level.

Please contact Clare or Sarah to arrange a private inspection and prepare to immerse yourself in this beautifully secluded, rural setting just 2km from the bustling Main Street of Margaret River. This desirable property has generous spaces, both inside and out, that allows you to indulge in truly relaxed living.

Margaret River overview

The townsite of Margaret River is located in the south west agricultural area, 277 kilometres south southwest of Perth and 48 kilometres south southwest of Busselton. It is located on the Margaret River from which it derives its name. The precise origin of the naming of the river is not known, but it was possibly named by John Bussell in honour of Margaret Wyche, a friend in England who was expected to follow the Bussell's to Australia. The name is first shown on a map of the region published in 1839.

In 1910 the Margaret River Progress Association wrote to the Minister for Lands requesting a townsite be declared at "the Upper Margaret Bridge". The reason given was that "the district is likely to be dotted with public buildings several miles apart in the near future if a townsite is not made available shortly". The District Surveyor who inspected the area preferred an area near the lower bridge on Caves Road, but this land was not available. Lots were surveyed in 1912, and the Townsite of Margaret River gazetted in 1913. In 1918 the name of the townsite was changed to "Margaret", but it was changed back to Margaret River in 1927, due to local usage of the name always being Margaret River.
