'When Mum decided to downsize, she inspected most of the retirement villages in the Western Suburbs. It didn't take her long to decide on 178 at Centro. It turned out to be the best decision as she was very happy here for many years.
She immediately noticed how sunny and warm it was compared to all of the others and being a keen gardener, she realised that with the sunshine streaming into the huge balcony she would have the perfect spot for her pot plants. With the apartment being on the second floor (in a 3-storey building) and having a north-facing aspect, in all the years Mum lived there she almost never needed to turn on the heater in winter or the air-conditioner in summer.
One aspect of Centro that really appealed to Mum was its location. She loved being able to walk almost everywhere that she needed to go - the supermarket, chemist, doctor's & dentist's rooms, post-office, newsagent, numerous cafés & restaurants, and a choice of 2 train stations (Jolimont and Subiaco).
For Mum, the best part of living at St Ives was making new friends, taking part in the many activities and enjoying the great facilities. She found it very convenient to be able have her hair done and visit the podiatrist on site. Her favourite activities were the aqua-physiotherapy classes and the sewing group. She also loved getting together with her Lawler neighbours for sun-downers in the atrium garden once a week and attending the fortnightly movies in the in-house cinema. When Mum didn't feel like cooking, she would join her friends for a delicious buffet meal in the restaurant. She could often be found enjoying a coffee in the café whilst reading a book she had borrowed from the adjacent library.
