Are you interested in the history of City Beach? If so, please read on.
This portion of City Beach now informally referred to as ‘Central City Beach’ was subdivided into residential lots in 1929 under the name, the ‘City Beach Estate’. The area was not densely settled until the 1960’s, however some homes, such as 17 Hovea Crescent, were built much earlier.
17 Hovea Crescent was constructed from 1939 and is referred to as the Inter War Functionalist Style of residence that demonstrates the scale of housing for prosperous families in the Inter War period. The block was a wedding present from the owner of the prominent hairdressing salon, Zecks, in Hay Street, Perth, to his son and daughter in law who had seen the film “The Lost Horizon” and so decided this would be the “Shangri-la” out in the bush of City Beach. 17 Hovea Crescent was reputably a gathering place at weekends for parties by the seaside at a time when access from the City was via the old plank road.
The south-east elevation of the home facing Elimatta Way incorporates curved walls with glass block openings, a balcony above the entrance overlooking the ocean and tall windows. Extensions and recent renovations to the home have maintained the ambience of the original residence whilst updating it for today’s lifestyle requirements.
The entry with a large storage cupboard under the stairs is flanked by living spaces on both sides. The huge living/dining room to the left of the entry features soaring ornate ceilings, an open fireplace plus large picture windows overlooking the greenery down the street to the ocean. French doors connect the living/dining room to the modern kitchen with white cabinetry and granite benchtops. Flooded with natural light, the kitchen incorporates quality appliances, loads of cupboards and a breakfast bar. The kitchen overlooks the meals area with the family room beyond. French doors from both the meals area and the family room provide seamless flow between indoors and the level rear outdoor entertaining area making the home ideal for gatherings with family and friends.
The master bedroom with modern ensuite is located on the ground floor with another 3 bedrooms and a modern family bathroom upstairs. There is balcony access from two of the bedrooms upstairs with ocean views across the tree-tops.
Boasting a prime Central City Beach location just a short stroll from pristine beaches with their restaurants and the Empire Village Shopping Centre in the other direction, this home offers an exceptional lifestyle for discerning buyers.
