THE DESIGN
The house embraces timber, with its grain and texture enhancing both the interior and exterior environments. The wall linings feature hoop pine ply, with the exterior showcasing a rough-sawn timber finish painted black. Additionally, both the flooring and ceilings are constructed from clear-treated plywood, providing a cohesive look. Elements of nature are timelessly captured in each living space through floor-to-ceiling picture windows, louvres and sliding doors. Verandahs expand the living spaces into the surrounding landscape, enhancing the striking architecture.
Karri Loop House features a welcoming living space that cultivates an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. The stunning views of the private courtyard are framed beautifully by large timber-framed sliding doors and extensive glass. This area is ideal for entertaining, whether for intimate family gatherings or larger dinner parties.
The kitchen features a NEFF slide-and-hide oven, an induction cooktop, and an integrated dishwasher, complemented by generous countertop space and a variety of innovative storage solutions. Additionally, the walk-through scullery offers extra storage, including extra bench space and a spacious pantry, enhancing the space's functionality.
Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows facilitate an uninterrupted visual and spatial connection between the interior and exterior, emphasising the stunning gardens. The use of timber throughout the living and lounge areas creates a warm and intimate ambience. The stunning view is timeless and captivating, especially at dusk when the gardens are beautifully illuminated. Strategically designed decking seamlessly integrates the residence, providing accessibility from all living spaces.
The bedroom wing of the home features a thoughtfully designed two-bedroom guest suite, complete with a shared bathroom and living area, ensuring the comfort of visitors. The aesthetic of black surfaces and timber extends seamlessly into the bathrooms, enhancing the overall design. The suite looks onto a spacious deck that provides breathtaking views of the beautifully landscaped Zen gardens. In contrast, the main bedroom offers a serene retreat that harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings. It includes both indoor and outdoor showers on a private outdoor deck, as well as ample storage, including extensive wardrobe space. This design prioritises functionality while fostering a strong connection to nature.
The corridor serves as a vital link between the living areas and the bedroom wing, maximising functionality and flow within the space. This unique design not only enhances accessibility but also allows for a variety of creative storage solutions. Situated just before the main hallway, a thoughtfully designed walk-through office features a built-in desk and ample storage options, creating an efficient workspace. Additionally, it offers convenient access to the laundry area with an outdoor drying space.

The townsite of Margaret River is located in the south west agricultural area, 277 kilometres south southwest of Perth and 48 kilometres south southwest of Busselton. It is located on the Margaret River from which it derives its name. The precise origin of the naming of the river is not known, but it was possibly named by John Bussell in honour of Margaret Wyche, a friend in England who was expected to follow the Bussell's to Australia. The name is first shown on a map of the region published in 1839.
In 1910 the Margaret River Progress Association wrote to the Minister for Lands requesting a townsite be declared at "the Upper Margaret Bridge". The reason given was that "the district is likely to be dotted with public buildings several miles apart in the near future if a townsite is not made available shortly". The District Surveyor who inspected the area preferred an area near the lower bridge on Caves Road, but this land was not available. Lots were surveyed in 1912, and the Townsite of Margaret River gazetted in 1913. In 1918 the name of the townsite was changed to "Margaret", but it was changed back to Margaret River in 1927, due to local usage of the name always being Margaret River.
