RESTORE RENEW REPLACE

This 1968-built brick and tile home is offered on an as-is basis and, as such, presents a significant opportunity with its 1-acre lot within walking distance of local schools, parks and playgrounds, the Heritage Trail and Mundaring shopping centre. The original home needs some love and attention but boasts high ceilings, jarrah floorboards, a large eat-in kitchen and three good-sized bedrooms. Various sheds and outbuildings offer ample storage and workspace, and the deep block with public open space at the rear boundary could allow for the construction of a new home (STCA).

Renovate or start anew; this Mundaring home is waiting with high ceilings, jarrah floors, and original windows to be restored to its former glory. The modest three-bedroom, one-bathroom home has been expanded over the years with a bright east-facing sunroom off the formal lounge, a multipurpose activity/playroom with glazing along three sides and a spacious family room/dining area adjoining the kitchen.

Jarrah floorboards extend across much of the floorplan, some hidden by impressive original carpets, and high ceilings ensure airy and bright interiors. This sense of volume is best appreciated in the country-style kitchen, where original cabinetry, hardware, and ample space for a table instil an authentic charm.

Three bedrooms and a family bathroom sit off a central hallway. The principal bedroom features east-facing windows framing views of the gardens, where a mature jacaranda offers a stunning seasonal display. A pair of glass doors connect one of the junior bedrooms to a multipurpose space with windows along three sides – an excellent activity- or playroom, a great teens’ retreat or a quiet study or media room.

The kitchen flows into an expansive, flexible living space with a gas bayonet, large windows and access to the backyard. This room leads to an enclosed patio that opens into a concrete-floored shed with a large sliding door.

Three further sheds and a small home orchard are arranged across the property. The freedom and potential of this 1-acre block become clear as you move towards the rear boundary. Open, mostly level areas interspersed with established trees offer plenty of space to keep chickens, grow vegetables and for kids and pets to run and play. There is also the potential to live in the existing home while you build a new residence towards the rear of the lot (STCA).

This home occupies a highly desirable and convenient location. Bus stops are a hop, skip and jump from the front gate, local schools an easy walk and the services and amenities of the bustling Mundaring village are minutes away. Renovate or start from scratch, but don’t miss this opportunity.

Mundaring overview

Permanent settlement in Mundaring began in 1882-84 when Mr Peter Gugeri established a vineyard south of the Eastern Railway. The first railway siding at Mundaring was named after him and for some years the area was generally known as "Gugeris". A later settler, M H Jacoby, took over Gugeris' vineyards in 1893, and named the business the "Mundaring Vineyard Company". The name came from an Aboriginal camp situated nearby and the meaning given to Jacoby by the aborigines was "a high place on a high place". The correct pronunciation was "Mundahring" but common usage has gradually converted this to "Mundairing".
