Sustainable Private Estate

Only a privileged few get to enjoy living on a property such as 113 Barry Road in picturesque Scotsdale. Not only a stunning home, but a very sustainable and rewarding lifestyle on over 50 acres of rolling hills and valleys. A two bedroom guest cottage provides options for guests or income generation.

Vast cleared spaces combine with native bush, towering trees, orchard, vegetable garden, a feature dam with jetty plus multiple dams and ponds. Totally self-sufficient when it comes to power and water, the property has seen upgrades and improvements on a huge scale over the last few years.

The home itself underwent a major extension and transformation in 2015 under the guidance of local architects PTX. Constructed of rammed earth, Colorbond, zincalume and timber, it blends beautifully into its stunning environment.

The main living area is dramatic - featuring rammed earth walls, cathedral ceilings lined with tongue & groove boards, solid Tasmanian oak flooring, cosy wood fire with oven, and expansive glazing taking in the view and leading out to the generous alfresco deck.

The kitchen is stunning with stone tops, Electrolux double wall ovens, induction cooktop and integrated Miele dishwasher. A custom Marri breakfast bar and bookcase provides extra benchspace and a division to the dining area.

Bedrooms are separated either side of the main living area with a generous master suite at one end and the minor bedroom wing at the other. The main bedroom area features a walk-in-robe, large bedroom with access to private verandah and a luxurious bathroom with bath, double vanity, double shower stall and separate WC. Minor bedrooms enjoy a rumpus room and their own bathroom.

The cottage has been renovated in the last few years and consists of living room with wood fire, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, laundry and a new kitchen. It has a verandah and is part of the main shed with tall automatic roller doors. Additional sheds and carport provide practical storage options.

Denmark overview

The townsite of Denmark, located on the south coast 51 kilometres west of Albany, was gazetted a townsite in 1909. It is located on the Denmark River from which it derives its name, the river having been named by the explorer Dr J B Wilson RN in December 1829. Wilson named it the "Denmark" in compliment to his friend Dr. Alexander Denmark R.N. a physician to the fleet. The Aboriginal name "Koorrabup", recorded by Alfred Hillman in 1833, also refers to this area.

Although a townsite was not declared here until 1909, a settlement of this name had existed here for some years previous. A Millars Bros. Timber mill was established on the banks of the river in 1894.
