Richard Kerr from exp Australia has been named WA’s best auctioneer, winning the Senior category at WA’s 2023 Gift of the Gavel Auctioneering Championships.
Mr Kerr will now represent WA at the 2023 Australasian Auctioneering Championships in Auckland, New Zealand from September 17-19.
Jason van Straalen from Milestone Realty took out the title for novice auctioneer after a solid performance.
REIWA CEO Cath Hart said the annual competition celebrates the art of auctioneering and showcases the high standards set by WA auctioneers.
“Auctioneering is a specialised skill and requires extensive knowledge of the market and legislation, and the ability to think quickly,” Ms Hart said.
“It takes true talent to be able to work the room while calculating bids and answering challenging questions. All of the competitors showed why they are among the state’s best.
“Richard conducted a lively auction and created a personal connection with buyers, which gained the attention of the judges. He will represent our state well at the Australasian Championships in next month."
Last year’s winner and this year’s runner-up in the Senior category, Prash Nayar from Perth Realty Group, will also represent WA in New Zealand.
