Child’s play is taking on a whole new meaning in Western Australia as the next generation of innovative playground concepts win the hearts of children and adults alike.
Perth’s latest parks and play spaces are being specifically designed to encourage children to get active outdoors, and away from computer screens, with designers focused on providing challenging play equipment for all ages and abilities.
Shipwreck, jungle, robotic and old world themes are among the exciting features being delivered at parks within Stockland’s new Perth communities:
- Vale at Aveley
- Whiteman Edge at Brabham
- Amberton at Eglinton
- Sienna Wood at Hilbert
- Newhaven at Piara Waters
- Calleya at Treeby
Col Dutton, General Manager for Stockland WA, said parks played a crucial role in creating highly liveable master planned communities and was an important factor for families when deciding where to build their dream home.

In the last two years alone, Stockland has invested $29 million in creating 13 parks on 25 hectares of open space at its WA communities, the first of which was the state’s first inclusive Livvi’s Place playground at Whiteman Edge.
The latest extraordinary play spaces set to open soon in Perth include a gigantic park at Sienna Wood measuring more than three times the size of the WACA Arena.
The shipwreck-themed playground will feature a range of equipment to encourage active, social, sensory and educational play. At the centre will be a 30-metre shipwreck surrounded by rocks, sand and shipping cargo as well as a ‘walk-the-plank’
themed ‘drop zone’.
Whiteman Edge’s new Jungle Park, opening on 10 September, will feature a seven metre enclosed climbing tower with tunnel slide, a top platform that resembles a bird’s nest and an impressive feature wall made from boulders.
Also opening in September is an adventure-themed play space at Vale in Aveley featuring a discovery play zone, which will include hidden dinosaur fossils in the sand, a dual flying fox, water troughs, musical instruments, embankment slides and a pyramid
climbing net.
Perth’s most popular new parks include:
- A robot park at Newhaven with a robot-themed cubby house, flying fox, basketball half-court, climbing structures and tunnel slides.
- Calleya’s newest outdoor open space featuring a three-level, eight-metre high play tower with a viewing platform and tubed slide.
- The first stage of Amberton’s multi-million dollar sporting fields, which includes an AFL sized oval, playground with a scooter track, barbecue and seating facilities.
