REIWA members spread some Christmas Cheer

The Salvation Army Headquarters was as busy as Santa’s workshop this week, as REIWA volunteers helped sort and display donations, and then guide the Salvos’ beneficiaries through choosing gifts for Christmas.

They were taking part in the Salvos’ Christmas Cheer week, where those in need can choose Christmas presents for loved ones.

Volunteers met beneficiaries at the door and guided them through the tables piled high with gifts, helping them make choices for themselves and their families. They then wrapped and added gift tags to the presents.

REIWA has been taking part in Christmas Cheer for nearly 10 years as part of its Community REInvest program and partnership with The Salvation Army.

This year 71 members from 22 agencies were involved, with a final group who will help set up and serve a Christmas lunch to the Salvos’ clients on 23 December.

Salvos’ beneficiaries were also welcome to take food hampers for the festive season, along with much needed food staples for everyday meals.

“It was wonderful to see so many REIWA members giving their time to help others,” REIWA CEO Cath Hart said.

“For some agents taking part in this event is a tradition. Semple Property Group, Bourkes, Rentwest Solutions and Julie Ormiston & Partners have been volunteering at Christmas Cheer for the past few years and find it extremely rewarding.

“I’m extremely proud of our involvement and thank everyone who took part."
