Shutter House combines all the aspects of a perfect home – artful and intuitive design, considered materials, a sought after location and utmost functionality. This is a home unlike any; Shutter House is truly a one off.

Upon entering the home, a powerful entry space draws the visitor upwards into the space and beyond via a sculptural staircase. Fluid curves flow from the hand-seeded, polished terrazzo floor upwards on travertine floating treads.

Living and active spaces are connected from the front to the rear, overlooking the lake to the front and the pool to the back. The spaces are abundant with light, warmed by custom oak parquet timber floors and maintain an ambience that is at once grand and comfortable.

With impressive mechanical remote controlled shutters lining the front of the home, residents are able to bring the outside in and capture the lake views at the push of a button. However once closed, you’ll enjoy a sense of privacy, whilst still engaging with the magic of this picturesque location.

For art collectors, creatives and the like, a gallery space connects with an internal courtyard filled with luscious planting, with the home further providing a variety of spaces to showcase your collection.

A full chef’s kitchen is tucked behind a concealed door, complete with walk-in cool room, gas and induction cooktops and a servery window to the alfresco island outside.

Central to the living area, an enormous granite block forms an island bench to the separate “entertaining kitchen”, which is both commanding in scale and highly functional. Amenities are concealed beyond a sliding timber batten panel that references the façade. This allows the main open spaces to present as clean and minimalist when not in use whilst providing maximised functionality.

Bathrooms are consistently appointed - silky travertine sits against textured white tile with graphic coloured grout and vibrant ceilings. This is then paired with linear black Agape fittings and fixtures and curved glazing, including iridescent multichromatic ‘extralight’ mirrors by Glas Italia. Textured louvre windows allow airflow and ventilation without compromising privacy and diffuse soft light into the room.

The sheer abundance of accommodation ensures Shutter House does not disappoint where family requirements are concerned. Spacious light-filled bedrooms with exposed concrete ceilings provide luxurious and contemporary havens to unwind.

Shutter House is an expressive space with a unique personality. Impressive from the outset and truly exceptional from start to finish.

A word from the Designers

“The vision for the project was clear – to capture views of the lake opposite whilst maintaining privacy and control of light and shade within. The brief identified the drastically sloping site as an opportunity to work with strategic use of floor levels and creation of connectivity between spaces across a variety of planes. Vignettes and vistas are framed and captured with intention to unite interior with exterior, the height of boundary walls and surrounding buildings create sensations of secluded privacy.

Strong, rectilinear forms and graphic geometric lines are softened and offset by strategically placed circles and curves. There is a balanced tension in this contrast that is simultaneously stunning, exiting but also feels calm and balanced.”
