Sunshine, siestas, sangria...

This lovely Spanish mission bungalow is the only one of its kind on the street.

So why not welcome summertime in, Spanish style? Not only can you indulge in all the finer things whenever the mood strikes – tasty food and drinks, the occasional post-lunch nap – but this is a wonderful location for those who enjoy a good fiesta now and then. The local community Facebook page is quite active and in it you’ll find invitations to gatherings all year round, including Christmas street parties and Halloween events. Built in the ‘30s and with enough space for la Familia, it retains all its original charm with modern additions making it light, breezy, welcoming, and absolutely gorgeous. Feel the sturdy floorboards underfoot that tell stories of decades past. Admire the delightful lounge room that comes complete with gas fireplace. And relax in the family areas that invite meaningful connections around the dinner table, sunny morning play times, and casual gatherings with friends over tapas and a jug of sangria. Loving the weather? Us too! Outdoor living is made so comfy in the huge semi-enclosed entertaining area, with stylings that blend seamlessly with the house. But you’ll have to BYO hammock.

Location-wise, you’re a bit spoilt here, and not just for the aforementioned street parties. Give yourself a break and indulge in #nocookmondays at the Night Markets on Beaufort Street, which is only 1km away. Other times, there’s Cecchi’s, Grow Café, Chef and Co, and a whole bunch of other delicious destinations that are even closer. If you’re not too stuffed, hit the town and hop a bus to your fave city bar, catch a show at the Astor Theatre, or head down to the local bowls club for some fun on the green. You’re sorted for practicalities, too, with Coles and a handful of other shops only 650m away and the train station an easy 850m. Bonus: this block has dual street access, with garage entry from Sussex Street a handy feature offering the potential for subdivision down the line. But whether or not you can bear to give up an inch of this stunning property remains to be seen.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
