Binningup is a south western coastal townsite located 127 kilometres south of Perth and 30 kilometres north of Bunbury. Binningup takes its name from "Binningup Beach Estate", a name used by a syndicate of Harvey people who subdivided the area in 1953. By 1962 there was only one resident in the area, but many homes were built in the following few years. At the request of the Shire of Harvey, Binningup was gazetted a townsite in 1963.
Despite being a popular tourist and stopover point in the summer months, Binningup is a beautiful coastal village which boasts many attractions for local residents including a scenic golf course, pristine beach is protected by a reef running parallel to it, general store, caravan park, skateboard park, recreation centre, youth camp, public library and public oval.
