Heart of Mundaring

The story of this home unfolds as you move from the welcome of a broad, east-facing porch into the warm embrace of the lounge rooms. What once was the original 1908 cottage is now a delightful living space with original floors and windows and a slow combustion fireplace. A sunny home office or craft room, formed by enclosing one end of the porch, provides a delightful quiet space with views across the everchanging display of the front garden to distant treetops.

Adjoining the lounge is a spacious, renovated kitchen with a large walk-in pantry. Sunny yellow tiles surround a modern bakers oven set into an original fireplace, timber slab benchtops, white cabinetry, an electric cooktop, and oven fashion a bright, functional space that opens into a formal dining room.

A wide, high hallway with ample built-in storage leads to three large, timber-floored bedrooms, each with reverse cycle air-conditioning. With a large ceiling rose, east-facing window and wall of built-in robes, the main bedroom is a delightfully airy and light-filled space. The shared family bathroom has been renovated and offers modern amenity with a modern soaking tub, shower and W.C.

Along the western face of the home is a recently constructed outdoor entertaining area, this cool sheltered space has ample room for barbecuing, seating and dining. An elevated terrace edged with a grape arbour expands the outdoor living space.

Heritage features blend seamlessly with modern essentials in the remote entry garage with adjoining storeroom and the powered workshop with drive-in access set at the rear of the carport. A series of vegetable gardens and a selection of fruit trees are dotted across the top of the gently sloping block where drive-in access via Reddy Avenue is yet another modern convenience.

Let the charms of this Hill's original seduce you with its gorgeous gardens, luminous interiors and strong bond to local history. A brilliant location puts sporting facilities, schools and the bustling Mundaring village within walking distance. Those seeking outdoor adventures can head to the Heritage Trail and begin exploring its 30 km of trails.

Mundaring overview

Permanent settlement in Mundaring began in 1882-84 when Mr Peter Gugeri established a vineyard south of the Eastern Railway. The first railway siding at Mundaring was named after him and for some years the area was generally known as "Gugeris". A later settler, M H Jacoby, took over Gugeris' vineyards in 1893, and named the business the "Mundaring Vineyard Company". The name came from an Aboriginal camp situated nearby and the meaning given to Jacoby by the aborigines was "a high place on a high place". The correct pronunciation was "Mundahring" but common usage has gradually converted this to "Mundairing".
