"Southerly"

Situated just over six kilometres from Denmark, "Southerly" is arguably one of the most impressive properties in the locality. With wide water views over the Wilson Inlet and beyond to the Nullaki Peninsula, the immaculately presented 4 bedroom 3 bathroom home has a list of features second to none. From the modern kitchen full of German made appliances, underfloor heating to all bathrooms and the large home office, ducted reverse cycle air conditioning plus Jtul wood heater, and a solar system with battery back-up, the list goes on. The home itself is impressive, but open up the bi-fold doors out onto the travertine paved terraces and the grounds of the property are just as stunning. From the terraces, a gravel path leads down to a travertine paved firepit area which adjoins the feature dam. The reticulated gardens include an enclosed "potager" with various fruit trees, vegetables and flowers. A commercial grade reticulation system sources water from the lined dam which is supplied by solar powered bore, and is also topped up by the overflow from two rainwater tanks that have a total capacity of 160,000 litres. Undercover parking for three vehicles is available in the garage, which has a separate water supply from a 23,000 litre tank, and its very own kitchen with stone bench tops, hot and cold running water, and a dishwasher. There is also a 12m x 6m shed to store tools and equipment. "Southerly" truly is a unique south coastal getaway, and the time, expense, and thought which has been put into this property is very evident. Denmark overview

The townsite of Denmark, located on the south coast 51 kilometres west of Albany, was gazetted a townsite in 1909. It is located on the Denmark River from which it derives its name, the river having been named by the explorer Dr J B Wilson RN in December 1829. Wilson named it the "Denmark" in compliment to his friend Dr. Alexander Denmark R.N. a physician to the fleet. The Aboriginal name "Koorrabup", recorded by Alfred Hillman in 1833, also refers to this area.

Although a townsite was not declared here until 1909, a settlement of this name had existed here for some years previous. A Millars Bros. Timber mill was established on the banks of the river in 1894.
