  • REIWA welcomes announcement of new Cabinet

The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) welcomes the announcement of a new WA Cabinet under the leadership of Premier-elect Mr Mark McGowan.

REIWA President Hayden Groves said the Institute was looking forward to working with the new cabinet on the housing issues affecting West Australians.

“During the State Election, we advocated for a number of policy reforms designed to address housing affordability by alleviating the financial burden state property taxes have on West Australians. As part of this campaign, REIWA surveyed the WA public, who told us these taxes have a negative effect on their buying and investing decisions.

“While the State faces some challenging fiscal times ahead, addressing affordability through tax reform needs to be a priority for the new Labor Government,” Mr Groves said.

In particular, REIWA welcomes the opportunity to work with the following new Cabinet members:
    • Mr Ben Wyatt – State Treasurer and Minister for Finance; Energy and Aboriginal Affairs
    • Ms Rita Saffioti – Minister for Planning, Transport and Lands
    • Mr Mick Murray – Minister for Seniors and Ageing; Volunteering; Sport and Recreation
    • Mr Bill Johnston – Minister for Asian Engagement; Housing; Electoral Affairs; Commerce and Industrial Relations
    • Mr Paul Papalia – Minister for Tourism, Racing and Gaming, Small Business, Defence Issues and Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs.

“As the peak body for the real estate industry, REIWA is committed to working with the new Labor Government to ensure good consumer protection outcomes at the same time as balancing an effective and vibrant industry that continues to employ over 8,500, across over 1,100 small businesses,” Mr Groves said.
