"REIWA and its agents are proud to be supporting The Salvation Army’s 2022 Sleeping Bag Appeal, which is back after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Find out how you can help."

REIWA and its agents are proud to be supporting The Salvation Army’s 2022 Sleeping Bag Appeal, which is back after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sleeping Bag Appeal is part of the Salvos’ Winter Appeal. It aims to bring comfort to those experiencing homelessness by collecting new or freshly laundered warm sleeping bags and blankets at designated collection points, which the Salvos then distribute to those in need.

REIWA CEO Cath Hart said the Institute and its members were pleased to partner with the Salvos to help bring some warmth and comfort to West Australians doing it tough this year.

“The last couple of years have been incredibly challenging, especially for the most vulnerable in our community. The winter months are particularly difficult, and the Sleeping Bag Appeal is a small way the community can come together and make a tangible difference to those experiencing homelessness through the donation of sleeping bags and blankets.

“As an industry, we know how important it is for people to have a roof over their head and a safe place to call home. Sadly, for the growing number of people experiencing homelessness in our state, this is not a reality.

“Thank you to the 14 REIWA agencies who have opened their doors to help collect donations. There are 10 agencies across the metro area, as well as collection points in Dunsborough, Albany, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.

“Western Australians are a generous bunch, and I am certain we can make this one of our most successful appeals yet,” Ms Hart said.

The Salvation Army WA Public Relations Secretary Warren Palmer said keeping safe and warm was a health and well-being necessity that all deserve to feel and experience.

“Right now, we are seeing significant distress in communities across Western Australia but a simple act of kindness with a gift of a sleeping bag can bring relief and comfort to someone in their greatest moment of need.

“We thank REIWA and its agents for getting behind this worthy cause and encourage everyone who is in a position to donate to dig deep,” Mr Palmer said.
