CAIRNHILL CASTLE

Darlington's resident GP, on an ancestral journey through the UK, fell in love with the castles of Scotland. Their dramatic turrets, spiral staircases, sweeping views, and manicured gardens charmed him and, upon his return to Darlington, he set about finding the perfect place to build his own castle. And so, Cairnhill Castle emerged from the quartzite boulders of Darlington in 1971, anchored to the local landscape with all the confidence and presence you'd expect from a Scottish castle.
