The Veggie Patch can be found on Rolland Road 30 kms ENE of Cascades.The property boasts a mixture of mallee soils with sandy and clay loams over gravel and clay sub soils. These soils continue to improve with the addition of 2.5 tonnes of gypsum over the last 5 years.
Of the total area, approximately 1,788 hectares is currently in crop with a mixture of wheat, barley and vetch. Grass control during the vetch rotation is an annual event. Crops are sown with 50 kgs per hectare of MAP and additional nitrogen is applied as Flexi-N.
The boundary fence is as good as new with internal fencing constructed with steel posts and ringlock / hinge-joint and is considered stock proof. A gravelled central laneway provides excellent manoeuvrability of both stock and machinery to the 11 paddocks, and a set of wandoo sheep yards makes sheep handling that little bit easier.
Improvements and infrastructure include a 4-bedroom 2-bathroom home constructed in 2003. The home is powered by solar/battery with diesel back up. A multi -purpose shed (25x12m approx.) with two bays having a concrete floor and walls to accommodate bulk grain of fertiliser. There are two Flexi-N tanks and numerous rainwater tanks ensuring nothing is wasted.
The property has 4 dams, two are equipped with solar pumps pumping to tanks and troughs. Rainfall is believed to be on average, approximately 375 mls. per annum.
