One of a row of four very special Plympton cottages named after Victorian spa towns, ‘Glenlyon’ is pure delight, from the chariot wheels framing the upper pediment to a series of sculptural female heads presiding over the dividing walls. The decorative details are a hallmark of the terraces architect Norman Hitchcock built in Carlton in Melbourne, before coming to WA at the turn of the 20th century. Finely worked Ashar limestone blocks set it apart from other stone cottages, and inside is all atmosphere: Oregon floors and doors, high ceilings, and a northern breezeway separating the home from its neighbour and welcoming the light.
