Construction and History: Built in 1863 for John Acton Wroth, originally a four-roomed cottage with a shingle roof. It was used as a private school by Mrs. G. Whitfield from 1871. In 1887, Augustus Frederick Lee Steere purchased the house and added two rooms on the east end. The property was bequeathed to the Anglican Church in 1903 and later became a private residence.
Architectural Features: The house is a single-storey extended dwelling of brick and iron construction with rendered arches to door and window openings, brick chimneys, and casement windows. The front verandah has timber posts and colonial-style criss-cross balustrading.
Heritage Significance: The property has historic value for its associations with John A. Wroth, Mrs. G. Whitfield, A. Lee Steere, and the Anglican Church.
