WHAT THE OWNER SAYS
“Our home was designed to allow the sun to warm the floors in winter and the roof to shade and cool in summer. The plan was open and transparent with a native garden to attract birds and lizards. In the front garden we planted ghost gums, a deciduous Japanese elm to remind us of the seasons and shading sheoks along the western fence.

The house was designed with environmental concerns at the forefront. The house is easy to cool and warm, and there is consideration to catching cross breezes and with fans in most rooms this minimises the use of air conditioning. There is a solar panel array which generates more electricity than we can use and a solar hot water system.

We loved living an inner-city life with access to parks, playgrounds, a community owned childcare centre literally across the road, the local City of Vincent Community Centre, library and Recreation Centre around the corner, and Beatty Park swimming pool is just up the street.

When you are inside the house you forget that you are in the middle of the city with views of trees from the windows and the quietness due to great insulation. The house was built to purpose – a home to come back to at the end of the day that welcomed you and allowed noisy play and quiet reflection. It houses our boys’ childhood memories and secrets and we will miss it dearly.”
