Joondalup

Situated 25km from Perth GPO.

This suburb is named after Lake Joondalup, situated on the eastern side of the suburb. Joondalup is an Aboriginal word first recorded in 1838, and said to mean either "place of pool or pond", "place of shining waters" or "underground blackboy". Another account states that a 'joondal' is a creature that can only move backwards.
